I finished this book via Kindle audible and therefore its review has beaten the other books languishing on my shelf. I have a plan to complete those books and their reviews by next week so hopefully there should be a lot of activity from my end on this blog.
After a brief hiatus from this genre I managed to find my way back. This is essentially a thriller with a dash of good human emotions and as usual, romance.
The story begins with an apparent serial killer targeting lone old men with a secret stash of weapons preparing for the end of the world. It turns out that part of Oregon,USA has a large fraction of those groups who have made careful laid plans to await a large-scale collapse of the functioning of the world as we know it. The lead characters give us different takes on such a thought process. Mercy Kilpatrick has been sent down by the FBI ( since she is an agent) because of her previous connection to the Eagle’s nest, the common factor to the killings. The connections that she holds close to her heart threaten to effect the investigation. Fifteen year old, festering fears are dredged up and what happens next is what the bulk of the story is about.Tangles of the heart are also the focus as Mercy comes to terms with her roots.
It was hard to guess some of the surprises thrown our way which helped with the thriller effect. This is a good read for those ardent followers of this genre.
