This book has been popping on the kindle unlimited with audible search for a while now and I have been scrolling past it. Now that my cache of audiobooks was dwindling, I finally did borrow it(It did have awesome ratings on Goodreads). I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the book.It has been a while since I read Jeff Wheeler (Kingfountain series: #0.5, #1, #2, #3, #4, #5,#6 ) for a series with strong teenagers who save the day.
Although, in this first book of the series the day is not saved. I will have to read the next book to figure out what happens next. The dystopian scenario presented in this is unique. I am yet to read another like it. The apocalypse has arrives and the angels are vengeful beings out to seemingly eradicate the humans.Penryn young is the sole sane support of her family (consisting of a sister in a wheelchair and a mother with mental issues) and she decides to see them to safety. Enroute tragedy strikes and she is forced to make a deal with the enemy(describing more of the enemy will count as spoilers and I recommend reading the book to gather more information) to proceed to set things right.
What happens after the strange partnership is formed forms the bulk of the story. The plot has enough details to keep us hooked.Penryn is an ideal champion for whom we can cheer without qualm, she is strong and capable while at the same time being humanely vulnerable to her emotions.Though the book does not end with a happily ever after I am very eager to see how Penryn gets herself out of the situation she finds herself as well as hopefully aid humanity to survive.
